The B-Line Diner, located in the Peabody Hotel, is modeled after an old fashioned diner, but with an upscale twist. The atmosphere and decor are nice, but the food and service are a completely different experience. I ordered a burger, cooked medium. I was served a very dry, very well done burger. On top of that, the burger was supposed to be a 1/2lb., but looked much smaller. The french fries were good, but a side cannot save a meal. I wouldn’t have had such high expectations for the food had I not spent $13 on a hamburger and fries.

The service was bad. Not only was my burger overcooked, but my friends’ as well. We only saw our waiter a couple times. I would understand if the restaurant were busy, but it wasn’t at the time, and there was no reason that I could see that we were not better attended to. It’s even more difficult to eat a dry burger when your water glass is empty.

The dessert case to the side as you enter the restaurant is the only reason I would go back there. While I was not able to sample any of the desserts, I would go back to try them, but only if I were in the area. While they did look amazing, they were still rather expensive, and there’s other places in town offering similarly good dessert.

Chicken Now (Florida Mall)

  • Food Quality: 4/10
  • Food Quantity: 4/10
  • Cleanliness: 5/10
  • Atmosphere: 3/10
  • Service: 1/10
  • Price: $6-$9

Chicken Now replaced the Chick-Fil-A in the Florida Mall food court. I expected it to be a similar establishment. While both places serve chicken, that’s about the only similarity they share. Chicken Now is overpriced. The chicken was overcooked, leaving it dry and chewy. They tried to charge me $0.25 when I asked for sauce for the chicken fingers, but when I protested saying that I never received any, they finally caved into letting me have it for free. They provide no ketchup for the french fries. Luckily, I was able to walk over to Charley’s Grilled Subs (a much better place to eat in the food court) to get some ketchup. This place is a complete rip off. I asked for a refill on my fountain drink, and was charged $0.50. Only, the cashier didn’t open the register to deposit the money, but a drawer underneath. It didn’t occur to me to question it at the time, but something felt odd. I later realized that being located in the Florida Mall, a high traffic tourist area, employees either are falsely charging customers for refills, stealing from the customers, or correctly charging customers, and pocketing the money, stealing from their employer.

This place should be avoided like the plague. While there is no shortage of bad places to eat in a mall food court, the place is the worst of the worst, and the fact that they’re stealing from their customers or employers seals the deal for me. I will never eat at this place again.

Zaxby’s

Zaxby’s is a fast food restaurant along the same vein of Chick-Fil-A. Everything on the menu is chicken, but it is prepared in a variety of ways and flavors. Zaxby’s has chicken fingers, wings, salads and sandwiches. The wings and fingers are great, and they even have a combination platter. The Wings and Things meal comes with 5 wings, 3 chicken fingers, french fries, and a slice of Texas toast. With a drink, it costs less than $10 and could feed even the hungriest of appetites.

Their wings come in a variety of flavors, nothing particular to Zaxby’s, but tasty none-the-less. Zaxby’s has their own special Zax sauce, which is basically a creamy thousand island dressing. Their french fries are crinkle cut and golden brown. I’m not sure if they are made to order, but I always get a fresh batch. It tastes great and is a perfect compliment to their moist and tender chicken fingers. You get one or two sauce packets with most meals, but have to pay extra if you want more than that. It is the one thing that turns me off about Zaxby’s, as does any place that charges for things like sauce.

Zaxby’s is an excellent place to get a variety of chicken meals, many between $5 to $6. All are tasty, but don’t expect to get a healthy meal here. There are not many locations so it may be difficult to find one close by, but it is worth the drive to eat here.
