I have to admit, I’m late to the food truck craze sweeping Orlando, and the nation. I really have been meaning to try more, but I rarely carry cash and they can be hard to track down. Luckily, my latter problem can often be solved by following the food truck on various social networking sites, like in the case of Korean BBQ Taco Box’s twitter account.

This being my first experience with a food truck, I didn’t really know what to expect. I was surprised to learn that I had to wait for my food to be prepared, around 10 minutes, but have learned that this is normal, and that (some) food trucks should be looked at as gourmet food on wheels, not fast food. The food at Korean BBQ Taco Box definitely displays the more gourmet aspects. The chicken teriyaki taco was delicious, and while I’m not 100% sure of what each side items, it doesn’t really matter, because everything was excellent.

While I didn’t expect to wait as long as I did for the food, it was my expectations that were off. The rest of my experience was very good. The staff was pleasant and friendly. The price might seem a little steep if it’s your first time at a food truck, but after you experience the quality and quantity of the food, the price becomes very reasonable.

Price: $6 – $10

Qdoba offers a decent variety of Tex-Mex fare. They offer tacos, quesadillas, burritos, taco salads, and more. They food is good, but nothing really overly appealing. The price is just a bit high for the quality of the food. While Qdoba is closer to fast food, if you’re in the Waterford Lakes area and have the time, I’d recommend Amigos Original Tex-Mex Restaurant and Cantina. While obviously going for markedly different atmospheres, Amigos is much nicer, the food is better and they offer much larger portions, albeit at a higher price.

Torta El Rey looks like it is in an old Checkers building. Located in the heart of Orange Blossom Trail, it has bars on the windows, and only outdoor seating. Don’t go here for the atmosphere. Do go here for the $0.50 tacos (chicken or steak). I got 3 chicken tacos (with cheese, onions, and cilantro) and a 32oz drink for less than $5. The chicken is a mixture of white and dark meat, but they were surprisingly good. This place is definitely worth trying, but you might want to get it to go.

Chili Daddy specializes in chili, but is not limited to just that. While I was only able to try a couple items, everything looked and smelled delicious. Each day they offer a couple different varieties of chili. I tried the traditional Texas style chili on a hot dog with shredded cheddar cheese. It was excellent, the hot dog was Boars Head, the chili had a great flavor, and wasn’t too spicy. I also had a couple of their tacos. The flavors offered are in line with the chili they offer that day, so I had the mango habanero chicken tacos. I honestly liked the tacos more than the chili. These things were excellent, mango and habanero is such a great combination with the spicy and sweet. While the tacos were great, I’m sure I would like the mango habanero chili equally as much. Rather than just eating a bowl of chili, you can get it over rice or pasta. I’ve had chili over pasta at home before, and it’s a nice way to stretch out a bowl of chili.

The service is great, taking your order, making your food promptly, and bringing it out to your table. The place is on the small side, with only about 10 tables, but it’s not meant to be a hangout. It’s a great place to eat some great food and get on with your day. Chili Daddy is currently cash only, so make sure you plan ahead if you normally use your debit or credit card. My only gripe with them would be that I didn’t feel like I got enough food for my money. But, I will say that the food itself is great, and would definitely recommend going here, as I would gladly visit them again.

California Burrito Express offers a variety of authentic Mexican food. Their portions are more than enough to satisfy your appetite and they are reasonably priced. I was surprised at how bland the food was considering their more authentic offerings compared to Taco Bell and other chains. The food isn’t bad, but it’s not great either. I’d go someplace else in town, since there are so many choices for Mexican food in Orlando. California Burrito Express has a few things going for it though, it is open 24 hours (a rare sight in Orlando), and they have great service. Their staff is courteous and eager to serve you.

Baja Burrito Kitchen offers up the usual variety of Mexican favorites, including tacos, burritos, quesadillas, salads, and more. It has a rather mild flavor, not really in tune with more traditional Mexican food, but it is good in its own way. The food is light and refreshing, and the flavor doesn’t linger long after you are done eating. They have an excellent salsa/condiment bar as well, ranging from very mild and refreshing salsa to habanero salsa that will satisfy your hot and spicy cravings. These salsas and condiments are a great complement to the food. They also supply unlimited chips and salsa while you dine in.

A quirk I found while ordering tacos is that they offer you either lettuce and cheese or onions and cilantro as toppings. I would prefer to have all of the above on my tacos, and there’s an easy way to get it. Order your tacos with the lettuce and cheese because onions and cilantro are available at the salsa and condiments bar.

The unique and refreshing flavor is a nice change of pace to the other styles of Mexican food available here in Orlando. I think the price is a bit on the high side considering the quality and quantity of food, but it’s not too high that you would want to avoid Baja Burrito Kitchen altogether. Two tacos or a burrito will cost around $6 after tax, not including a drink. Expect to pay around $8 per person with a drink, which I feel is a bit high for a self serve restaurant. It is a great place to visit on occasion because of its light and refreshing offerings, but I don’t frequent it because of the price.

Update: make sure you read my lastest review on Baja Burrito Kitchen. The place really grows on you.

The Cheesy Gordita Crunch has returned to Taco Bell. I had never had it before, so I decided to give it a try. They have a value meal, which is slightly more than the 3 taco value meal, that has 2 Cheesy Gordita Crunch and a drink. I like the thick flour tortilla of the Gorditas, but this is basically a regular size taco wrapped in some extra cheese and a Gordita tortilla. It’s a lot more filler and a lot less substance. It is good, but not worth the price considering its size.

Del Taco is a great Mexican fast food alternative to other places you may frequent. It has a much larger variety of choices, which you can see for yourself on their menu. One of my favorite choices is shredded beef for the tacos. I love shredded beef, but it is usually impossible to find at a fast food place. Del Taco is also very cheap, even cheaper than Taco Bell, and the quality of food is better at Del Taco. If you’re looking for a really cheap meal, look no further than their $0.59 tacos, with ground beef, lettuce, and shredded cheese. They also occasionally “accidentally” make extra food, and offer it to customers for free. It’s a welcomed treat, when many places would just throw it out.

Taco Daze is the name of the special, and it comes with 2 tacos, chips and a drink, all for only $4.99 plus tax. The tacos are the same size as they have always been. There has been no cutting back on portions for this deal by Tijuana Flats. I’ve already had it 5 times, in one week no less. It makes an already great meal even more affordable.
