Buffalo Wild Wings has a large variety of flavors of wings, and has an excellent beer selection, as well as a full bar. Aside from that, there isn’t much else positive to say about the place. Most of the appetizers are sub par, either being very bland, overly salty, or just generally bad. In particular, the nachos should be avoided at all costs. The chips are flavorless and stale, and the salsa is worse than most salsas you can purchase in a store. The wings are rather expensive, starting at around $8 for 12 wings.
The atmosphere at this particular location is often so loud you cannot hear the people at your table talk. It is often overcrowded, to the point where you usually bump into people at nearby tables if you move around at all. The service is some of the worst I have had anywhere on several occasions, and the only reason I continue going is generally because it is a convenient location and something most people can agree upon. If you are looking for a nice place to sit down and have a meal, avoid this location at all costs.

The bad economy has affected us all, and it has hit the food service industry hard. There have been numerous closings in the area over the past year. I’ve compiled a list of places I know have closed in the past year.
- Whataburger – University Blvd. Orlando, FL
- Shane’s Rib Shack – Orlando Ave. Maitland, FL
- Shane’s Rib Shack – Sand Lake Rd. Orlando, FL
- All Bennigan’s and Steak and Ale Restaurants (2008). There is actually one Bennigan’s left on US-192, near I-4
- T.G.I. Friday’s – E. Colonial Dr. Orlando, FL
- Denny’s – E. Colonial Dr. Orlando, FL
- Pizzeria Uno – E. Colonial Dr. Orlando, FL
- Smokey Bones – Sand Lake Rd. Orlando, FL
- Natural Chicken – Orange Ave. Orlando, FL
- Quizno’s – Blake Blvd. Celebration, FL
- Casselberry Kitchen – Casselberry, FL (via Damien McKenna)

There are numerous wing places in Orlando, and Hurricane Grill and Wings is yet another one. Hurricane Grill and Wings does little to separate itself from the competition. It has an average beer selection, having about 10 beers on tap, and about 16 bottled options. The bottled beers are often just duplicates of those on tap, and the most “craft” beer is Blue Moon. There are 30 flavors of wings to choose from, with something for just about every taste. I chose the Cajun wings, which are a dry rub. The wings are good size, large in comparison to many other places in town, and they come with a side order of fries or homemade kettle cooked chips. The kettle chips didn’t even taste like they were salted, so came across as being very bland.
Since you get a side, and the wings are large, you can get away with ordering fewer wings than you would at other places, and still be satisfied. I would prefer to skip the side and pay less though. When I eat wings, I don’t want to waste any belly room on anything else. All in all, Hurricane Grill and Wings is good, but isn’t great. If I had my choice between them and other wing places in town, I would generally go with someplace else. But, if you want wings, and this is your only option, it will suffice.

Chili’s is running a special right now with 10 meals for under $7, which basically means $6.99 for most of them. Many of these meals are just smaller portions of items already on the menu, while others were always under $7. I like the smaller portions for less money. The chicken soft tacos are a great choice. The meal comes with two chicken soft tacos, stuff with lettuce, tomato and onion, and your choice of one side. I got the loaded mashed potatoes figuring it was the biggest bang for my buck, but there are healthier options such as steamed broccoli, salad, corn on the cob, and others. The sweet chile glazed Kiickn’ Crispers are excellent as well. The mean comes with 4 crispers and a choice of side.
All in all, this is special is a great deal for a cheap and tasty meal. Couple it with Chili’s 2-for-1 drinks all day, every day (most drinks, but not all), and you’ve got a great place to go hang out with some friends, or watch the game at the bar area.

Ker’s Wing House is a bar and grill style restaurant with a scantily clad staff. It may sound familiar to another chain, but the main difference is that the food here is good. They have a solid beer selection, which makes a perfect partner for their wings. Their wings come in a variety of flavors, Blackened being my favorite. Their Blackened wings are a nice mix of Cajun spices. You can also get the wings breaded, buffalo style, or naked.
Wing House offers a variety of sides as well, including fries, chili fries, onion rings, jalapeño poppers, and many more. One side they are famous for is their fried pickles, which are a nice is of sweet and tangy. The service at Ker’s is second only to the food. The only complaint that I have about the service, and Wing House in general, is that the staff comes by towards the end of your meal trying to sell you various merchandise including shot glasses, playing cards, calendars, and more. Putting up with this is a small price to pay for a great meal that will not leave you hungry.

Jax 5th Ave Deli & Ale House is a run of the mill deli shop. I have eaten here a few times for lunch, having different sandwiches each time; the Cuban, French Dip, and 5th Ave, a sandwich made of turkey, ham, roast beef, and a variety of breads. Each of these are a good choice, but the 5th Ave is the only one that definitely won’t leave you hungry afterwards. The sandwiches come with more potato chips than you will want to eat, considering they are often stale. For the price you pay here, it would be nice to have a choice of some more appetizing, and filling sides.
The two things that Jax has going for it are, it’s vast beer selection, and the fact that they put a jar of dill pickles on your table. The pickles are kosher dill, and nice and crispy. The beer selection is excellent, and will have something for everyone.
Overall, I would only recommend this place for the beer. Sit at the bar and have a few, and snack on the free pickles. The sandwiches are alright, but you can get a bigger, better, and cheaper sandwich from Publix. The service has also been poor for my coworkers and I, often having to repeatedly ask for drinks, and felt like we were inconveniencing them in the process.
